CHESTER ROTARY SUPPORTS HATIAN RELIEF EFFORTS
The Rotary Club of Chester is collecting donations now through February 28, 2010 to support Shelterbox USA in its efforts to supply aid to earthquake ravaged Haiti. The ShelterBox Trust is supported by ShelterBox organizations set up by Rotary clubs in a number of other countries, including the USA, Canada, Australia and Southeast Asia. Since its first deployment in January 2001, ShelterBox has become one of the most effective aid agencies in the world. Since then, ShelterBox has sent out nearly 50,000 boxes worldwide providing emergency accommodation for more than 500,000 disaster victims. Because Rotary and ShelterBox are totally non-partisan and use volunteers who work and live with the local population, ShelterBox Response Teams an often cross political and religious divides in order to reach areas where some organizations are reluctant to operate. On the ground, teams work with many organizations including UNICEF, the Salvation Army, NERCHA (Swaziland’s HIV/AIDS task force), the US Marines, Oxfam, UNHCR, and the World Food Program.
Each ShelterBox is a large, rugged, green plastic container that holds a 10-person tent and a range of other equipment that can include thermal blankets, insulated ground sheets, multi-fuel stoves that can burn anything from diesel to old paint, basic tool kits, collapsible water containers and water purification tablets. Shelterbox contents are customized according to local conditions and what is most urgently needed. Each box costs approximately $1000.00. Chester Rotary’s goal is to sponsor multiple boxes through their collection of donations.
The US ShelterBox organization is its own 501(c)(3) organization. All contributions are tax deductable. Checks made payable to ShelterBox USA can dropped off at the Water Street branch of NewAlliance Bank in Chester, may be mailed to Chester Rotary, PO Box 111, Chester, CT 06412 or given to any Chester Rotary member.

Admission: Donation, Bring Cash or Non Perishable Food for Chester Pantry
Hi All,
Thanks to those of you who came to the Tidings of Comfort and Joy Concert in The Gallery last Sunday afternoon. It was a tremendous success! We raised $86 and a shopping cart full of non perishable food for the Chester Pantry. There is a real need for the pantry to be full, especially these days.
If you couldn't make it to the concert but would still like to donate, feel free to stop by and leave a donation here at the studio or go directly to the Town Office Building and give it to Lynne Jacques lynnejacques@chesterct.org.
See you at the next thing!
Happy Holidays,
Leif
p.s.
The Chester Sunday Market's last day is this Sunday, December 20th from noon - 4 pm.
With 2009 practically behind us, the mood is thankful yet reflective. And in the spirit of the season, Lauren Agnelli and Dave Rave want to share an hour of their finest songs that bring “Tidings of Comfort and Joy” – including several special, original holiday songs.
Performing Songwriters Agnelli & Rave have toured three continents individually and as a duo, and have written hundreds of songs, the majority of which have been recorded and covered by them, and by other recording artists (Teenage Head, The Washington Squares, The Trews, Brave Combo, The Shakers, Shane Faubert, Little Jack Melody and His Young Turks). They still actively write together and are preparing a new collection of songs for a 2010 Lauren Agnelli release; Dave Rave’s new full length CD, Live With What You Know, is due out in an early 2010 Bongo Beat release.
To add to the specialness and festivity of the occasion, prominent Connecticut Impressionist Artist, Leif Nilsson, is holding the musical gathering at his Spring Street Studio and Gallery in the heart of Chester, a charming space he shares with photographer/writer Caryn B. Davis. Refreshments will be served, and donations accepted for the musicians; please bring non-perishable food items for the Chester Food pantry.
You are sure to hear something that will warm the cockles of your heart and soul from Agnelli & Rave and from their special guests, who will include Leif Nilsson on banjo, Ebin-Rose, and others. Holiday sing along will also be encouraged, spirits willing!
